I have always loved reading and with today’s technology and social media, I found myself absorbed into a whole new world where I could have books downloaded instantly, read all about the authors and even talk directly with them and let them know how much I enjoyed their work. I have now met and connected with so many amazing authors and started some life-long friendships with both readers and authors.
I actually got started providing editing services to Indie authors after I started reviewing books and receiving ARCs. Many of the published books and ARCs I read were littered with errors. I easily spotted the glitches and found this to be mildly frustrating, to say the least. I was thoroughly enjoying the stories, but the errors were surprising.
Now I’ve learned that many ARCs have not yet been through the final editing process (in the beginning, I did not know this little tidbit of information), but I found this to be an amazing opportunity and an open door for me. I began highlighting the errors I was finding and providing the author with a sample of what I could do for them. Most authors were very appreciative and many were shocked beyond belief to find what their paid editor had missed. Thus, a new part-time career was born.
Indie authors are not amateurs but an unedited novel may make them appear that way. Every manuscript needs editing and proofing by a second, even a third set of eyes. No one catches everything in one fell swoop, although I try.
I offer copy editing and proofing services. I like to collaborate with the author, talk with them during the process, get to know their style. I become invested in the characters and cherish them just as much. I will never tear apart your work, that is not the type of editor I am. I will give my suggestions and opinions from the viewpoints of both editor and reader. I want your book to shine and I take pride in cleaning it up and making your manuscript SPARKLE.
I live in a small town near Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA with my husband, daughter and some furry pets. I enjoy spending time at our little cottage on the St. Lawrence River watching the ships pass by. I love reading and editing beside the water, it is such a peaceful, calming place.
I am open to taking on new clients and I try to be flexible with timelines and fit everybody in. If you are interested in my services, please book ahead and avoid disappointment.
Thank you for stopping by, I look forward to hearing from you.
